Amsterdam Sinfonietta:
Bringing the Front Row to Everyone
Through Immersive 360° Virtual Reality

In an era where digital innovation continues to redefine how we experience art and culture, classical music is uncovering bold pathways to connect with audiences across the world.
At Cinaglyph, we specialize in bridging physical stage performances and immersive digital storytelling. Captured in December 2024, we partnered with the renowned Amsterdam Sinfonietta and creative agency Brandkracht to record a full 75-minute live orchestral performance in multi-camera 360° VR.
By placing viewers on the stage right alongside the musicians, this project demonstrates how cutting-edge immersive media can dissolve traditional performance barriers—inviting listeners directly into the heart of world-class symphonic music.
✦ About Amsterdam Sinfonietta
Amsterdam Sinfonietta is an internationally acclaimed string orchestra celebrated for its innovative programming, musical excellence, and dynamic approach to classical music. Operating without a traditional conductor, the ensemble relies on intense non-verbal communication, mutual trust, and shared acoustic energy. Driven by a desire to push artistic boundaries, they continually explore new mediums to connect with global audiences.
Breaking the Boundaries of the Classical Concert Hall
A live symphonic performance is an unmatched sensory experience, but traditional physical concert halls have inherent architectural constraints. Only a select handful of patrons ever secure a true front-row ticket. Even then, no audience member ever gets to stand directly on stage alongside the musicians—watching bow hairs vibrate, catching subtle breathing cues, or witnessing the collective intuition of an ensemble playing without a conductor.
Furthermore, physical access remains a barrier for millions. Geographic distance, mobility limitations, and financial obstacles frequently prevent passionate music enthusiasts from attending prestigious venues in person.
“Amsterdam Sinfonietta sought a digital solution: a full-length, high-resolution VR recording that could democratize the orchestra experience, welcoming listeners on stage regardless of their physical location or personal circumstances.”
Orchestral Rig Array & Spatial Geometry
The spatial deployment diagram engineered for Amsterdam Sinfonietta, ensuring optimal acoustic sightlines and immersive 360° viewpoints without impeding conductorless performer communication.

Balancing Acoustics, Eyesight & 360° Spheres
Because Amsterdam Sinfonietta performs conductorless, direct eye contact between the principal concertmaster, section leaders, and cellos is vital. Every camera unit was mapped using this layout diagram to guarantee that musicians’ sightlines remained completely transparent while creating an intimate, multi-perspective master.
Agile Engineering: Multi-Camera 360° VR Production
Adaptive Camera Deployment
We arrived on set fully prepared with six Insta360 Pro 2 cameras. However, venue geometry revealed spatial limits during rehearsal setup. In immediate consultation with the venue and musicians, our team pivoted swiftly to a hybrid configuration: three Insta360 Pro 2 units paired with three compact Insta360 X4 cameras. This agility kept sightlines completely pristine.
Under-Stage Control Station
To guarantee undisturbed concert acoustics, we established our DIT and camera control center directly beneath the stage. From this control station, the technical team monitored incoming video, modulated remote iris and exposure controls, and verified timecode synchronization across the full 75 minutes.
On-Set Data Management
Continuous high-bitrate multi-camera recording over 75 uninterrupted minutes generated hundreds of gigabytes of footage. Managing these files on set was critical to prevent workflow bottlenecks and data corruption. Rigorous offloading pipelines and immediate checksum integrity validations safeguarded every millisecond of footage.

A Permanent, Living Digital Stage
The finished production delivers a seamless, high-definition 360° multi-perspective master that enables Amsterdam Sinfonietta to invite music lovers anywhere onto the stage. Listeners are no longer confined to distant concert hall seats; they can observe every gesture, bow motion, and subtle dynamic exchange as if standing directly beside the concertmaster.
